Patchd is a collection of 20 audiovisual mini-apps that transform your camera feed and live data into interactive art and sound. Each app combines computer vision, audio synthesis, and creative visuals into a distinct experience.

Vision Apps

• Face Patch: Detects faces, wraps them in retro-styled frames like Win98, VHS, terminal, and polaroid treatments, and sequences beats to your expressions.
• Text Patch: Reads text through your camera and turns live Hacker News headlines into rhythmic visual collages.
• Pet Patch: Detects cats and dogs, draws skeleton overlays on their poses, and triggers sounds from their paw movements.
• Face Puppet: Tracks 52 ARKit facial blend shapes and maps your expressions to a multi-pattern sequencer.

Sound Apps

• Body Synth: Full-body pose detection drives a 5-pattern sequencer. Arms, head, and legs each activate their own instruments.
• Hand Theremin: Pinch in the air to play a theremin where finger distance controls pitch and hand position controls volume across 10 selectable scales.
• Object Orchestra: Point your camera at everyday objects and let each recognized item trigger its own sequencer pattern synced to a master clock.
• Data Synth: A camera-free sequencer driven by generated Bitcoin charts, live Hacker News stories, simulated weather, real-time clock data, and random color palettes across 8 independent patterns.

Visual Apps

• ASCII Camera: Converts the live camera feed into adjustable real-time ASCII art.
• Emoji Camera: Replaces pixel regions with color-matched emoji in real time.
• Motion Trail: Moving objects leave ghostly trailing echoes while static regions stay sharp.
• Slit Scan: Captures vertical slices of the camera feed over time to create surreal time-stretched imagery.

Photo FX

• Emoji Mosaic: Rebuilds photos entirely out of color-matched emoji.
• Pixel Sort: Sorts rows by brightness, hue, or saturation for classic glitch-art textures.
• Channel Shift: Offsets RGB channels for chromatic aberration effects.
• Dither: Applies Floyd-Steinberg, Bayer, and other dithering algorithms.
• Data Mosh: Simulates digital video corruption with block shuffling and channel swaps.
• Fractal Mirror: Tiles a photo into kaleidoscopic fractal symmetry.
• Posterize: Reduces color depth for bold poster-style graphics.
• Voronoi Shatter: Breaks photos into geometric Voronoi cells with adjustable density.

Audio Engine

All sound apps share a built-in synthesizer with 10 instruments including kick, snare, hi-hat, acid bass, tom, and cowbell, plus adjustable BPM, musical scale and key selection, reverb, and 16-step beat sequencing.

Privacy

Everything runs on-device. Your camera feed is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. There are no analytics, no tracking, and no accounts. The only network request is fetching public Hacker News headlines for Text Patch and Data Synth.

Requirements

Requires iOS 17.0 or later. Camera access is required for every app except Data Synth.
